NewsThere are some enigmatic but possibly interesting Envision Central Texas workshops coming up which apparently involve focus groups of Ordinary People Like You And Me getting together to talk about development and growth, and it sounds like they have some kind of board game or computer game simulation stuff. Seems like a good forum to complain about our city council giving tax breaks to encourage big companies to relocate here, etc. Plus it's free and has snacks, mmmm! I may check out the Thursday, October 17, 2002 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. one. You have to register in advance though. Marty's hosting a game day tomorrow (Sunday). |

I'd been thinking recently that it had been a long time since I'd played Euphrat & Tigris... So it was handy that JP & Marty wanted to play it first thing this evening! Of course I was rusty since it had been over 2 years, but it was fun to play it again.
Next came my best game of Puerto Rico ever. I felt like a Daniel or a JP, winning handily with 41 points. Poor Dan ended up with 15 points. Surely that was a mistake, Dan, and you forgot to add in your building points or something. :)
I see RussD and Zack played 2-player Carcassonne, which doesn't happen very often. But the game works perfectly well that way, the times I did it.
Drunter & Drueber is game that hadn't been played in a long time. I'd like to play it again since I remember enjoying it.
Can't Stop had an improbable cocked die rolled by Matt, which ended up nicely balanced on its corner!

We had another epic game of Drakon (although this one didn't last 3 hours, it did go through the entire deck of tiles). This game ended unexpectedly with JimG pulling a Jedi mind trick on us all: when I had 4 gold and was considered the main threat, JimG was on a Heavy Gale tile and pointed out to everyone how there were 2 different tiles he could reach from it which would prevent me from winning on my next turn, so everything was cool. No one noticed that he could also reach the double gold tile... William got ill partway through and so Matt graciously took over his spot, hence they were scored as a team. MarkY spectated for a long time and seemed to enjoy himself until he remembered he had to keep up his act of hating Drakon!
Meta GameJP was the Meta Devil. Here is the Meta Game he mailed out:Hot Potatoe Ignoring the enigmatic Dan Quayle references, this Meta Game opened with a lot of ball-passing activity, then JimG received it and held onto the basketball for a long time until he left, so JimG is the Meta Devil and will design the next Meta Game! |

Zack, JimG, and I are Co-Devils! MarkH wins the rare and coveted Extra Average Award (which probably isn't actually so rare for people who play an even number of 2-player games).
