May 1 2002 RussCon Report

News

Another large turnout, with several new folks: Daniel brought Carolina Tim & Sarah brought Usman; Harry brought his wife Becky and their new son Thomas John (the latter did not actually play any games, precocious lad though he may be). And yeah, if you're like me, you're wondering about that baby name; Harry swears he had never heard the English slang "John Thomas" before. Plus Daniel & Carolina generously supplied everyone with RussCon ballcaps! 25 people all wearing matching RussCon ballcaps... we have taken geekdom to the next level! Woohoo! I went to Clandestine Sunday May 5 with Whendy, Clayton, RussD, and Matt -- a good show, but they officially announced they're going to stop touring at the end of this year. That's a real bummer. Meanwhile there are 2 more free Tuesday night silent films at Alamo Drafthouse. And The Cat's Meow is a nifty current movie (set in the era of silent films). There are still DaveB games for sale and Jeffles sf mags free for the taking. Yo, Dave, you should include a price list in that box, or at least info on contacting you, as several folks were interested in the merchandise this week. Or better yet, come to RussCon.

Meta Party Game

24 players last week! How could this happen?!? More importantly how did YOU contribute *raised eyebrow*? This week all people can be META, even those unable to attend. Here is how you score.

Fill out a piece of paper list at the top your name.

Then underneath that list all of the people that you have brought or gave an invitation to that lead them to attending RUSSCON. In addition, if you know someone you brought brought someone else, list that person under their name. Then put the person that invited you, if you are an original member or if you were a stray that just wandered in.

SCORING :

every person you have brought to Russcon scores you 2 points.

every person that someone you brought has introduced to Russcon scores you 1 point.

+1 point for each person that brought you, or that you brought that is at RUSSCON this week. (the strength of your branch)

+3 points if you are an original RUSSCONer (RussW, Ken, Evan, RussD) or managed to find your way to RUSSCON without an invite from someone who has attended.

+3 points if you bring a new person this week (limit 3 points) (that comes out to 6 points 3 for new, 2 for bringing them and 1 for them being there)

+5 for bringing the coolest new person (by secret bidding, sucking up a must!)

feel free to mail in your part of the RUSSCON tree before Wed night to compete. I will try to put it together in some kind of family tree when it is all done.

So I have a base score of 3 (for being the uninvited) + 10 (five people brought)
+1 for each one of those people that show up (none expected)
+6 if I bring a new person (which I might)
+3 for each additional new person I bring (very unlikely)
+5 if my new person wins the popularity contest

Well, Daniel bugged out before computing the scores on the entry forms, that damn lazy bastard. Marty didn't formally enter, but good god, we all know he's brought the most people to RussCon, so I decree Marty the Meta Devil. If he wishes to decline the honor, I'll take it since I'm pretty damn sure I've brought the second most people.
