News

Jeffles returned from a successful-sounding interview trip to Paris, though he lost some hair.

JimG supplied us with lots of tasty Jumex Mango Nectar (now in special funny-shaped cans with 10% more!) and popcorn (which inexplicably was not used -- I'm sure we'll rectify that next week!)

I recently saw Zach Scott's production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which was fun though pricey.

Holy smokes, I won 2 games of Carcassonne again again this week! Woo hoo! We also tried out the new version with river tiles... several games were played with it, and the consensus seemed to be that they didn't add much to the game, plus the rules for them were vague and squeezed into a small paragraph in a blank space on the original rules, so it was unclear what sorts of river bends were illegal (just back in the opposite direction of the first tile? Or a U-turn anywhere?) They seemed to introduce a bit too much luck at the start as well, since you have at most 2 options on how to place a river tile instead of the generally many options with normal tiles.

A reminder: please write and spell clearly when recording game results, make the scores and ranks clear, and remember last initials for people with common names, thanks! This week there was a game recorded with JimG, Whendy , and DaveB but no title! Lost to the mists of time.

Meta Party Game

Brady was the Meta Devil. But sadly he did not design a Meta Game, so I came up with a variation of last week's Meta Game:
The BRADY Meta Game

For each game you play score +1 for each element of {B,R,A,D,Y} occurring in the title (as printed on the cover). (I.e. each game will score 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 points.) High score wins. Tie broken by # distinct titles played.

Lots of 2 meta point games (Carcassonne, Web of Power, Acquire, Vampire, Euphrat & Tigris, Zirkus Flohcati, Big City), and also Bluff, Can't Stop (1 meta point) and Traumfabrik (3 meta points). Here's my reckoning:
RussW 2+2+2+1+2+2 = 11
JonathanC 2+2+1+2+2 = 9
Dan 2+2+3+2 = 9
JP 3+2+2 = 7
Steve 2+1+2+2 = 7
Whindy 3+2+2 = 7
RussD 2+2+1 = 6
Jeffles 2+3+1 = 6
Daniel 2+2+2 = 6
Matt 2+1+2 = 5
Clayton 2+3 = 5
Marty 2+2 = 4
Clay 2+2 = 4
Brady 2+1 = 3
Whendy 2+1 = 3
JimG 2 = 2
DaveB 2 = 2
Ben 0
William 0
So I am the Meta Devil and will design next week's Meta Party Game. I know I won't let me down like Brady *sniff*...

Evening's Soundtrack

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead (self-titled)
The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
The Cranberries, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?
Hole, My Body, The Hand Grenade
Sarah McLachlan, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy

These are all meta titles which were even harder to come up with than last week's meta titles!

RussD is the Devil! Steve is Vice-Devil. JP is Vice-Vice-Devil. William and Ben are Co-Generous Angels. Heh heh. Tichu losers! Mwahaha!
