News
Carly, Ben and Stephanie had a fun housewarming party in their new house. Whendy has a Hollywood agent interested in a screenplay she wrote. Whindy seeks funding for her game development team now since 3DO unceremoniously shut down their Austin studio.
A few people sent me results from last week's AllLookSame link:
RussD: I took the "All Look Same" test and scored exactly the same as you. I
guess all look same to Russ!
Alfred: 10/18 on the AllLookSame test. I'd have gotten 11 but for a misclick, I swear...
Dan: My score was 9 out of 18. "Normal - You are OK." I thought I would do higher because I work with many Chinese and
Japanese at work.
William: I got a "pretty good" score of 12 out of 18. I should have done better on a
couple that I missed. Didn't notice a trend to my mistakes.
Remember this Wednesday is HALLOWEEN! Come in costume! It will be fun, as well as meta! And feel free to bring candy and snacks to hand out to trick-or-treaters (I'm assuming we will be visited by them).

First they change the farmer scoring, then they introduce expansion packs. When they make Starfarers of Carcassonne, I'll scream in disgust, but until then I'll continue to enjoy it in its classic original form.
I begin to think BobK has a knack for Stephensons Rocket.
We had a very rousing finale to Web of Power indeed.
Meta Party Game Evening's Soundtrack
Dan was the Meta Devil. Here is the Meta Game he emailed out:
One of the long-standing features of RussCon is the weekly music theme.
This metagame is designed to aid/relieve Russ of his weekly thematic
toil.
RussCon will start with a Russ-selected musical theme of 5 CDs as usual.
Whenever you win a game you have the ability to change the theme by
replacing one of the 5 CDs in the CD player carousel. There is an
open/close button on right side of player which will open the drawer
while continuing to play the current CD. You may replace any CD except
the currently playing CD. You may select a CD from Russ' collection.
However, RussCon attendees are encouraged to bring their own. Listeners
may groove and jive to the ever-changing pattern of music.
Please be a good RussCon citizen by returning CDs to their box and
returning boxes to Russ' collection or to the guest contribution pile.
Attendees who enjoy music will be declared winners. Winners and losers
will be invited to RussCon the following week to partake in the next
stage of the metagame - the Halloween costume party.
I deviated a smidgen from this plan, starting us only with Dandy Warhols' Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia, just because that's what happened to be in my CD player. The complete soundtrack was:
- RussW: Dandy Warhols' Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia
- Jeffles: Marillion, Season's End (chosen randomly from my CDs)
- William: Rocky Horror Show, Original London Cast (from my CDs)
- Clayton: Al Stewart, Past, Present and Future
- Carly: Bettie Serveert, Lamprey (chosen randomly)
- Daniel: Disturbed, The Sickness
- RussW: Type O Negative, October Rust (from my CDs)
As per Dan's plan, there was no winner (or you could say we're all winners, really), and no Meta Devil next week, in order to permit the special Halloween Meta Game, the RussCon Halloween Costume Contest, of course.

Some of y'all may recall discussions about making a Fight AI tournament; discussions which bogged down amidst confusion on specifics of language, platform, etc. Well, I talked about it with a fellow with whom I play email go, and he jumped in and created a C++ framework for Fight AI tournaments.
Some of you may have seen the photo on a Dutch news site showing a Bangladesh rally with a poster showing Bert from Sesame Street with Osama bin Laden. Here is much information on whether that was a real or doctored photo.
