25 of us played 15 games (although not all were rated). Longer games than average, it would seem.

News

Last week was of course quite surreal and stressful in many ways. I hope everyone is doing ok. I think for many of us it was very good to get together for RussCon As Usual and enjoy our weekly ritual of Camraderie, Carcassonne, and, uh, Crossdressing.

Balderdash was amusing to listen to as ridiculous word definitions were read out loud...

carcassonneAh, Carcassonne, truly you are the game of the gods. Surely I will never tire of playing Carcassonne and putting this box-cover art in the RussCon Report.

I've omitted a Frank's Zoo game which all involved was won by Whendy but all agreement ends there. It was misrecorded in the book, and participants have given the following versions:
hall of shame
Whendy 1st +5
SteveH 2nd +3
Dan 3rd 0
JP 3rd 0

Remember too that ties are exceedingly rare in Frank's Zoo! So bravo Whendy for winning decisively enough that everyone remembered that, and as for the rest of the ranks, I hope y'all have learned not to drink and play Frank's Zoo! This was an illuminating and amusing little exercise in the fallibility of human memory. Speaking of which, go see Memento if you haven't already. It's the best movie I've seen so far this year. How's that for an unexpected tangent?

Meta Party Game Results

Whendy was the Meta Devil. Here is the Meta Party Game she emailed out:
Grrl Games!
RussCon needs more female pulchritude. And it needs more appreciation of the grrls who actually attend. So for the Meta Game this week, players get meta points for every game they play with a female player. And to encourage hot, grrl-on-grrl meta action, the more grrls in the game, the more meta points!
# of Females MetaPoints to each
in Game Player per Game
-------------- -----------
     1 2
     2 4
     3 8
     4 16
(No need to go higher--there's never been 5 girls at RussCon!)

Other rules:
Grrls receive meta points for themselves + other grrls.
Guys who are willing to attend RussCon dressed as Grrls can qualify for meta points for themselves + whoever is willing to play games with them while they are thus attired. No fair dressing like your regular self and claiming to be a tomboy or other such slimey JP-like tactic--you must have some "girlie-grrl" feature for the night. Think "taffeta!"
Ties: Will be broken by # of total games played. If needed, by coin toss.

Well, as it turns out quite a few guys decided to qualify as grrls. There was a tie between JP & Dan. (That final game of 6 Nimmt with 5 grrls really racked up the points for some of us.) The random tie-breaker gave Dan the win, so he is the Meta Devil (even if he elected not to be a Meta Grrl)! So Dan will design the next Meta Game.

Whendy took a couple photos which I've added to the RussCon photo page!

Evening's Soundtrack

Hole, Live Through This
L7, Hungry for Stink
Alanis Morissette, Jagged Little Pill
Fluffy, Black Eye
Sleater-Kinney, The Hot Rock

Another meta theme, of course! Go, grrls!

Brady has pulled the eponymous Brady Maneuver, so is ineligible for Devilhood! Carly is the Devil! Expect games with purple pieces at the dining table. William is Vice-Devil! JP & I are Co-Vice-Vice-Devils.
