News

clandestineClandestine is Friday, with 2 shows (7:30 and 10:00) at the Cactus Cafe in the UT Union. Several of us will be gathering there around 7 for the early show. The only drawback is I'll miss Great Hall Games again for the fourth week in a row! Maybe we can go play a quick late night game afterwards...

Also, let me know if you are interested in doing a potluck Thanksgiving kind of thing. I have definite maybes from Clayton, Brady, and Jerrie at this point.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, there will be RussCon As Usual next Wednesday November 22. The previous two "Thanksgiving Eve" RussCons had good turnouts of 15 people!

It was good to play Stephensons Rocket again even though I played mediocrely. I was surprised Marty had only played it twice before and didn't count it high among the Knizia games.

Web of Power continues to intrigue me, so much that we played it twice. Somehow things got weird in the second game as Alfred finished ahead of me, and JeffF didn't win it! Inexplicable! But at least JeffF still finished ahead of me and Alfred.

tayu

It's the season for Tayu newbies: last week RussD clobbered me in his first game of Tayu; this week new player Stephanie beat PJ!

We played RussD's Contrack expansion for Trainsport Austria. Bob, the newcomer to Trainsport, was appropriately crushed. JeffF & RussD locked out Bregenz and Switzerland and ended up winning first and second place. I wasn't sure how the "lock out Switzerland" strategy would work with the Contrack rules, but it appeared effective...

Meta Party Game Results

JP was the Meta Party Devil, so he emailed out this week's meta party game:

Hey, I'm the Meta Devil and the Devil. That's meta.

Last week's meta game was so tasty, I decided that this week, I'll bring some Metamucil Apple Crisp wafers and Smooth Texture Orange packets...

But seriously, here's the real Meta game:
You get a point for each distinct person you play a RussCon rated game with.
So, if I played a game with Marty and RussW, and then a game with Dan, Daniel, and Marty, I would get a total of four points.
Most points wins. (Duh.)

Of course, since I won't be arriving till after most people have left, I probably won't be winning this one.

As the Meta Party Devil, it was JP's duty to determine the winner; he collated the data around 1:00 am and decided RussD & Jeffles were tied, each having played 9 other people. Mistrusting the flighty fellow, I double-checked; while it was true that RussD & Jeffles were tied with 9, JP overlooked that Alfred played 10 other people! Alfred's accomplishment is especially impressive considering he played 3 games in a row with the same set of people.

So Alfred is the Meta Party Devil and will determine next week's Meta Party Game. Party on, Alfred!

JP pulled a Brady Maneuver, so JeffF is the Devil! Then Jeffles, Stephanie, Marty, Dan, Chris! RussD wins the rare and coveted Extra Average Award.

Richard's PBM Server supports a variety of classic strategy games. I'd heard of this site for years but only recently started playing a 9x9 game of go by email.

Go players should also check out the Kiseido Go Server. It's pretty nifty with a Java client (so you can play on Windows, Mac, Unix...). I played my first game there yesterday and enjoyed. There aren't nearly as many people as IGS of course, but it didn't take me long to get into a game.

Distort the future president!

...the games just don't seem as cute since William moved away...
