News

13 of us played 15 games! Welcome Omar (who was here once before, but only briefly...) Omar is the first name in the database that starts with O. Other name news is the discovery that "James" was ambiguously long-lost James Pei, and Fina's son James. So long-lost James has been turned into JamesP.

Jeffles started us off with some crazy money bidding game he made up (at least somewhat on the spot, it seemed). It was pretty chaotic with 8 players!

Labyrinth is the simple card game KevinU originally brought. It's cute and quick but not very deep.

Another lackluster evening for Saint Petersburg for me. But I still enjoy it! Speaking of Saint Petersburg, it seems that if you own both pubs, you are allowed to use them both (thus getting up to 10 VPs in a turn), despite earlier reports to the contrary. (William had noticed that the computer version didn't let you double-pub, but apparently that was a bug that has since been fixed.) If you are so fortunate as to have both observatories, you may use both of them, so it stands to reason you should be able to use both pubs.

I fared better in the two games of Blokus, even getting rid of all my pieces in the second game.

Attika seems to be gaining popularity lately, and indeed on Thanksgiving the next day I managed to play it for the first time (winning both games, the first by connecting two shrines and the second by getting all my buildings out, just before Matt would have) and really like it. It's got a pretty simple elegant set of rules, yet a variety of tactical stuff going on. It also has some elements of what I imagine La Strada is like, if anyone would ever bring La Strada so I could play it!

Also, late night, Whendy and JP and I played Zendo with dice just for trying it out. It worked nicely! Perhaps we shall play some recorded games of it in the future.

JP is the Devil! Chad and I are Co-Vice-Devils!

There were rumors that if JP were to be the Devil, he would insist on playing Carabande (the flicky race car game) at the table next week.

If you are confused how the ratings work, you could peruse the FAQ.

I used GraphViz to generate the graph image.

Meta Game

JimG was the Meta Devil and designed no Meta Game (pesky holidays).

So I decided to simply pick one attendee this week randomly to be the Meta Devil. And the winner is Jeffles! Perhaps there will be more crazy Jeffles games next week...

Encomium, A Tribute To Led Zeppelin

Nun ĝi estas jara tradicio, kiel Steve rimarkis en 2002, kaj nur Clayton tutkomprenis lastan jaran kaj ĉi tiun jaron, sed Whendy ankaŭ ekkomprenis post iomete da diskuto.
