15 of us played 15 games.

As the saying goes, nice guys finish last! For those who haven't heard, I was laid off Monday along with 10 other cow-orkers, most of whom have become good friends, so it's been a strange week. But I am ok, and even took an enjoyable day trip to Enchanted Rock on Thursday with 8 ex-cow-orkers.

That mean man Marty took Crokinole away!

El Caballero hasn't been played much (a half dozen times, and only once before by me). It's vaguely like Entdecker, Carcassonne, etc. I had a hankering for it. I think now it's a little clumsy and not as good as Entdecker or Carcassonne: the Caballero tile mechanics feel weird. One amusing anecdote: at one point near the end I misunderstood a question of Whendy's and gave advice that cost her a point and gained me a point. So I said "it's only a point - if it actually makes a difference in the final scores, then you can get mad at me!" So of course she and I ended up tying for second, heh.

Trippples is an abstract strategy game from my childhood. I think I got it in 3rd grade or something. (Actually 7th grade I guess.) It's been sitting downstairs for years, so I'm glad it finally got played at RussCon!

The abstract strategy game Zertz had only been played once before, 2001-05-30 (PJ beat Allen).

Up, Jenkins and Odds On Favourite were 2 social games from the "after dinner games" book William supplied years ago. The latter is also known as Indian Poker, wherein players hold a playing card to their forehead so everyone else but them can see it, and bet poker-style on who has the best card. It was amusing to watch!

MarkY is the Devil! JimG and JP are Co-Vice-Devils! Pauline, RussW, and William are Co-Vice-Vice-Devils. Then KevinU and Whendy.

If you are confused how the ratings work, you could peruse the FAQ.

I used GraphViz to generate the graph image.

Meta Game

William was the Meta Devil and mailed out the following Meta Game:

jacksonNice Guys Finish Last, or Hail to the Hindmost.

For every RussCon game you play, you get a number of "tickets" equal to the number of "players" who place above you.

*** Only official RussCon sanctioned games count for the MetaGame.

*** Only games that have at least three humans playing count for the MetaGame.

*** Only games that you play completely (from start to finish) count for the MetaGame.

At 11:00 pm, the number of "tickets" you have will be tallied. Any games that are still in progress and have not yet completed at 11:00 pm will not count towards the MetaGame.

The number of "tickets" you have will be put into a drawing. The drawing will be designed in such a way so that the number of "tickets" you have will be in proportion to your chances of being drawn.

One person will be drawn and will get a chance to win a fabulous prize by playing an exciting carnival game.
[See below for list of prizes.]

If that person fails to win a prize, or chooses to turn down the prize, then another ticket will be drawn and they will receive a chance to win a prize.

Someone who has won a prize is ineligible to get more prizes.

If a particular prize is already won and taken, then someone who wins it will get the next available prize on the list.

This process will continue until all the prizes have been claimed.

Some clarifying details:

In team games (like Tichu and the Flicky Game), a single team counts as a single "player." So if your team loses at Tichu, then you and your teammate will get one (1) "ticket" each.

If you tie, you will not get a "ticket" for the person you tied. So if you and another person both come in third in Bluff, for example, you would each get two (2) "tickets."

The person who comes in first in a game gets zero (0) "tickets" for that game.

PRIZES !!!

The Honor and Prestige of being MetaDevil for next week !!!

If there are questions or problems, William will make the judgement call/decision. If William is involved in the conflict, then Russ W. will make the judgement call/decision. If both William and Russ W. are involved in the conflict, the person with the most change in their pocket will make the judgement call/decision.

William used Clayton's old yogurt cups in a box to make a "bounce the ball into a cup" carnival style game. Apparently it was easier on his own floor, because all of us (including William who won a try) ended up having a tough time getting the ball to land in a cup or even in the box after a bounce on my floor. But it was amusing fun. Eventually the Honor and Prestige of being MetaDevil for next week was won by JP, who chose not to take it since he was holding out for $20. Ben won the pie (razzleberry, yay). I won the $20 (pleasing since I recently became incomeless!), and Jeffles (who also paid me the $1 for last week's lost bet about the Mardi Gras banner's presence or lack thereof) won the Honor and Prestige of being MetaDevil for next week!

Some music I associate with job changes for various reasons. Personal and unfair, I know.

I believe there is nobody in the world besides me who can explain the significance of these 5 CDs to job changes.
