January 27, 1999 RussCon Report

There were 19 of us. Devil James was moments too late, so I served as Vice-Devil.

Jay, the Settlers Champion, has chosen the Laser Quest Gamble as his prize. Brady, the Dedicated Settlers player, has chosen the Clandestine concert (which is Friday January 29, at 9pm in the Cactus Cafe.) If you're interested in that and care to join some of us for dinner first nearby, meet us at Veggie Heaven on the drag across from Dobie Mall at 7:15.

It was about time I got to win a 6 player RoboRally.

The Rainbows scores were 110, 110, 100, 100, 75. The new Rainbows cumulative score distribution:

165 (Russ)
140
135
125
120 x2
110 x7
100 x9
90
85
75
65
60
40
-10 (William)

It occurs to me that I really ought to break this down by # players in the game, since this appears to be a game where the scores decrease as the # players increases.

I might have beaten Doug in the Can't Stop game, except I got foolishly cocky and rolled once more even though my 2nd color had hit the top. What can I say, I couldn't stop. Damn those Jedi mind tricks!

Game convention in Texas:

The RussCon management makes no endorsement but merely reports for your interest the following item:

Chris Keeling wrote on rec.games.board:

I am the board wargame coordinator for BlisterCon, to be held in San Antonio, Texas, this June 18-20th. Games to be played include Advanced Civilization, Advanced Squad Leader, Axis & Allies, Axis & Allies Variant, Conquest of the Roman Empire, Diplomacy, High Ground, History of the World, Risk, Settlers of Catan, Squad Leader, Stratego, and Talisman. There will be an Axis & Allies Tournament as well and it is not too late to include other games by request. There will also be open gaming. Congratulations, Jonobie! You won both your games and are the Devil. I am again Vice-Devil. Marty wins the Dedicated Award.

Laser Quest Update:

There are now about 11 of us officially wanting to do Laser Quest. So it looks like there's a pretty good chance we can make this happen! So now I'll begin the painful process of trying to find a mutually agreeable time... Let me know if any of the following times would not be good for you, or if you have a special preferred time:

Monday evening
Thursday evening
Friday evening
Saturday (afternoon or evening)
Sunday (afternoon or evening)

Tuesday night is not good for me due to go club, and Wednesday night is not good for what I hope are damned obvious reasons. I am assuming that a weekday afternoon is not good for most people due to school or work.

If you have interested friends, then indirect RussCon folks are welcome, especially since it will reduce our per-person price!

By the way, this event probably won't happen in the immediate future; I expect it will take a couple weeks to finalize. Which is just as well, since I seem to have pulled a muscle in my knee a couple days ago...

Here they come! The dogs of lust.
